Do you know how much pumpkin is too much for a dog?
It’s not easy to answer this question. It all depends on the size of the dog, their activity level and many other factors such as health and whether they have any allergies.
In general, most dogs can tolerate about 10-20% pumpkin in their diet without any problems. This would be around 3 or 4 tablespoons per day which is approximately 30 grams (1 ounce) of raw pumpkin per day if your pet weighs 15 pounds (7 kg). The best way to find out what works for your pet is by doing some experimenting with different amounts until you find the right amount that agrees with them.
I looked up pumpkin and dogs and found this: ” It must be noted that pumpkin is not safe for all dogs because it contains higher levels of sugar than some canines can safely digest. Pumpkin may also lead to obesity, so don’t overdo it with your dog.”
There’s a lot of other stuff out there about the benefits of pumpkin for dogs, but then I found this:
“Pumpkin can be healthy but it’s not a magical cure for anything . It is mostly water so it fills the stomach. The fiber content is good to have in small amounts as part of a balanced diet.”
So I don’t know if anyone really knows what is best. I’m going to offer my dogs a bit of pumpkin every day and see how it goes.
