I knew my dog was clever, but I never realized how much until he learned to open the door from his kennel. He’d been in there for about two hours and after a few minutes of whining, he figured out that if he jumped up on his hind legs and pushed against the handle with his mouth, it opened. Now this wouldn’t be so bad except that when we were home alone together one day, I came back into the house to find him roaming around outside unattended because he’d cleverly figured out how to get himself free.
That’s when I decided it was time to put an end to this problem once and for all by training him not only how to open the door from his kennel using his paw, but also how to go back in of his own accord. The first step was teaching him that pressure on the door handle caused it to open and then close again. How did I do that? Well, I tugged at the door with him standing next to me. After he figured out this new trick, we made him stand next to the door and as soon as he started pawing at the handle I would pet him on his head or give him a treat.

Training a dog takes patience, lots of treats, and an understanding that these animals do not speak or read human languages. – What are the benefits of dog leash training?
Although some dogs may take over as the trainer at first, it’s important that pet owners know how to train their own dogs. The benefits of dog leash training include:
-ensuring safety for both owner and pet when out on walks
-giving your dog a chance to be more connected with you and fully aware of what’s happening around them so they don’t react in fear or aggression by bolting ahead or lagging behind
-teaching your pup appropriate behaviors right from the start which will only improve as they grow and mature!
– How to stop my dog from barking
One method is to teach your dog not to worry about smaller sounds. For example, if you hear a car coming up the street, give him a treat every time he stops barking. Eventually this will stop your pup from associating cars with something negative and his barking will decrease dramatically.
And make sure that you reward them when they are behaving appropriately! Positive reinforcement is key for training any animal or person of any age. There are lots of different incentives that can work too-toys, snacks, affection-whatever motivates your dog best!
– Is training a puppy too much work?
No! Your dog would rather have jobs to do. Dogs are very intelligent, but they’re not human. They don’t speak our language and they can’t read our minds. So it’s important to train them with the basics so that you both know what you want out of each other when out on walks or in any situation for that matter. Whenever your pup is behaving appropriately, make sure to reward good behavior with treats, affection, toys-whatever motivates your pup best! And if they are barking or doing something inappropriate? That means there is a stronger motivation behind their actions in that moment that isn’t being fulfilled in some way-excitement, attention perhaps? So address these needs before anything
– How do I use a hand held leash?
A hand held leash is a great way to train your dog some basic commands while keeping them close by. It gives you more control when training some of the less reliable dogs out there, but does not restrain either party or affect their natural gait. You can get these leashes at any pet store for very reasonable prices, are best used with younger/smaller dogs which require more vigilance. They’re also lightweight and convenient! To teach him how to use it, start by holding the leash gently in one hand near his collar or back foot with your thumb below his lead – if he pulls on the lead, only tighten it once before releasing to make sure you won’t.
